1. How did you get into travel nursing?
I’ve always been a fan of traveling and seeing new places. I’ve been to many different states and out of the country a few times as well, so knowing that I love being a nurse and helping people, being able to help them all over the continent sounded pretty amazing!

2. What’s the best part about traveling?
The best part about traveling is seeing the scenery and new places. I can’t wait to be able to explore more once everything has opened up after this pandemic eases up! However, even driving through the different states to get to North Carolina, it was amazing to see the change in scenery.
3. You meet a first-time traveler in the Charlotte area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?
I haven’t been able to explore much due to the pandemic, however, there is a great restaurant in Gastonia (right outside of Charlotte) called Cook-Out that is always super busy, and they have amazing milkshakes!
4. What’s the best part about the Charlotte area?
The people here are so nice and helpful! I went through a drive through and this place was out of chocolate milk, so the woman at the register offered to hand mix me some chocolate milk!! Even at the hospital where I am located, I have met so many people who smile and are willing to help out. Southern hospitality is a real thing!
5. Any advice for other travelers?
Don’t be afraid to try new places and new things! That is all part of the adventure. Traveling is amazing because you have the freedom to do many things. Right now, it can be rough especially if you are traveling alone or away from home due to the pandemic, but just keep reminding yourself why you wanted to travel in the first place and that everything happens for a reason!

6. What is the best part about working with Axis?
The staff at Axis have been very kind! My recruiter, Veronica, helped me find the perfect place for my first assignment, which has allowed me to get used to the change in routine, but also helps me try new things that can only put me further in my career! I also know that I can contact her at any time which is nice, even though I’m sure my night shift schedule is a pain!
Congrats Mercedes! We’re so glad you joined the Axis team! 🙂
