City, State: Tacoma/Puyallup, WA

1. How did you get into travel nursing?

I had grown too comfortable in the place I originally grew up in and realized I wanted to explore what the world had to offer, and hopefully grow into a more open-minded, adventurous individual! I wanted to challenge myself both professionally and personally and travel nursing would allow me to pursue both of those ambitions of mine!

2. What’s the best part about traveling?

The blessing that I get to pursue a career that I love but also explore cities, eat amazing food, and meet awesome people along the way….it doesn’t get better than that! There’s so much freedom and opportunities for growth when traveling, I feel very lucky to be living the life I have now! And the fact I get to do it all with my favorite boy, Koda!!

3. You meet a first-time traveler in the Tacoma/Puyallup area, which restaurant is a must for them to try?

I would definitely recommend Lefty’s Burger Shack!!! They have THE best smash burgers, along with the perfect crinkle-cut fries…AND they have shakes there too. Oh, and did I mention they have BOMB onion rings?

4. What’s the best part about the Tacoma/Puyallup area?

As the Tacoma/Puyallup area was my first travel assignment location, these cities will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Everyone is so friendly and there are popular and hidden gems in Tacoma that have filled my heart with everlasting memories and feelings. Point Ruston and Chambers Bay are my favorite spots in all of Tacoma. They highlight all the best parts of living in the Tacoma area and always manage to bring me a sense of peace and bliss when I visit! The views are breathtaking!

5. Any advice for other travelers?

A piece of advice I would share is to budget as best as you can and also keep an open mind when looking for your next assignment! It’s definitely important to immerse yourself in the new city/state you are residing but make sure to take in the small moments whether that takes place at work, in your home, or in a special spot in the city!

6. What do you like best about working with Axis?

Oh man, where do I start!? My interactions and experiences with Axis have consisted of consistent (and most importantly) honest communication, feeling truly advocated for, and true professionalism. Travel nursing is not all glam and when it does become stressful I know I am supported by a team of personnel with my best interest at heart. I really do have to thank Charity and Tiffanie, and, really, the company as a whole for being the main reason I am able to pursue my dreams and ambitions!

Congrats Aaliyah! We’re so glad you joined the Axis team! 🙂
