Lauren Recommends Maine
If you’re a travel healthcare professional looking for your next destination, look no further than the seaside state of Maine. Axis healthcare recruiter, Lauren Merrell can’t recommend Maine enough as a prime spot for both work and adventure. With its natural landscapes, charming towns, and energetic coastal life, Maine offers something for everyone. Here’s why Lauren Recommends Maine and shares a glimpse of what awaits you in her favorite New England state.
Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is undoubtedly one of my favorite national parks if not my absolute favorite. The views here are some of the best I’ve seen anywhere in the country, and the hiking trails cater to all levels of experience. Two of my personal favorite trails are the Beehive Trail and the Jordan Cliffs Trail. Both offer trail challenges and reward hikers with spectacular sunset views.
For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, Cadillac Mountain is a must-visit. Part of the Acadia National Park and the highest point on the East Coast, it offers some of the best views in Maine. You can drive up to the summit if hiking isn’t your thing, making it accessible to everyone. Just a heads-up, the park typically opens at the end of May, as it can be quite cold before then. I’ve camped there during Memorial Day weekend, and it was still pretty chilly!
Bar Harbor Charm
Located next to Acadia, Bar Harbor is one of my favorite New England towns. It’s a charming place with a rich history and plenty of activities to keep you entertained. The town has a ton of fantastic restaurants, many of which serve some of the best seafood in New England. Make sure to go whale watching while you’re here – it’s one of the best spots on the East Coast to see these majestic creatures, including the elusive Blue Whales.
Don’t miss out on visiting Egg Rock Lighthouse, a classic New England lighthouse offering a panoramic view. The downtown area is also packed with adorable shops and local boutiques, perfect for an afternoon of leisurely exploration.
Life in Portland, ME
Portland, ME, should be high on your list of travel destinations to consider. I would compare it to cities like Asheville, Austin, or Denver, but on a smaller, more manageable scale. It’s easy to navigate and full of charm.
Food tours in Portland are a fantastic way to experience the local culinary scene. Make sure to visit Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the country. This iconic spot has been featured in numerous movies and is a testament to Maine’s scenic beauty.
If you’re a craft beer enthusiast, Bissell Brothers Brewery is a must-visit. Known for their outstanding IPAs, Bissell Brothers is just one of the many top-notch breweries in the area.
Conclusion
Maine is a travel destination that combines the best of natural beauty, charming historic towns, and coastal city life. Whether you’re exploring the winding trails of Acadia National Park, enjoying the coastal charm of Bar Harbor, or planting yourself in the culture of Portland, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. As an Axis healthcare recruiter, I can confidently say that a travel assignment in Maine will be an unforgettable experience. So pack your bags, lace up your hiking boots, and get ready to discover all that Maine has to offer!
