Carrie Recommends Maui

Carrie Recommends Maui

Dreaming of a perfect travel nurse or vacation destination? Carrie Recommends Maui and tells us more about “The Valley Isle.” This island paradise offers everything from spectacular landscapes and prime beaches. Whether you’re an adventurer, looking to relax, or a bit of both, Maui is the place for your travel nurse assignment in the sun.

Beaches and Sight Seeing

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the unique pink, white and black sand beaches. Snorkeling and diving at Molokini Crater is an absolute must. The clear waters and abundant marine life are perfect for underwater adventures. Don’t forget to bring an underwater camera and some fish food!

Another experience you can’t miss is the Road to Hana. Renting a car is necessary for this journey. The winding roads take you through lush rainforests, past waterfalls, and along stunning coastal cliffs. There are so many gorgeous spots to stop along the way. One of our favorite stops was Rustbuckets – Maui, located at mile marker 8. It’s a lovely place to take a break and enjoy some local treats.

Hawaiian Meals and Snacks

Maui’s food scene is incredible, blending traditional Hawaiian flavors with island influences. You have to try Poke, Mahi-Mahi, Loco Moco, and of course, Shaved Ice. And if you enjoy golfing, bring your clubs and book your tee times in advance for some of the best courses.

Traditional Luaus

One of the most memorable experiences was attending the Maui Nui Luau at the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa. The luau was an all-day event filled with entertaining ceremonies, offering a one-of-a-kind experience.

Before the fires, we spent a lot of time in Old Town Lahaina. It’s the perfect place to wander the streets, shop, admire art, and enjoy great food. Black Rock Beach is also nearby and open to the public, offering another beautiful relaxing spot.

Where to Stay

Maui has accommodations to suit any budget. From fancy hotels and rentals to budget-friendly spots, you’ll find something that fits your preference. We chose a vacation condo near Kapalua Bay, which was fantastic. Having a kitchen was a huge plus, especially for preparing quick meals and snacks that we could take on the go.

My recommended time to visit Maui is between April and May or September through November. The weather is pleasant, and there are fewer crowds. Don’t forget to bring a light jacket as it cools off in the evenings – a refreshing change after a day in the sun.
