Give us a little history of how you got into the Travel Healthcare Industry!

I stumbled into the Travel Healthcare Industry quite unexpectedly, thanks to a random call from a recruiter after I posted my resume on Indeed. It’s funny because back then, I didn’t even know what a recruiter did! But during the interview, something clicked. I found myself drawn to the idea of working with clinicians, probably because of my experiences with my stepson who had Cerebral Palsy.

You see, we’d interacted with so many amazing clinicians during his care journey, and I felt this innate desire to give back to those who had given us so much support. It was like a light bulb moment when I realized that by helping connect great clinicians with hospitals, I could play a part in ensuring that kids like Derek receive the top-notch care they deserve.

I’ll admit, I was hesitant at first. I wasn’t sure if I had what it takes to be a recruiter. But I figured, why not give it a shot for a year? Well, fast forward a decade later, and here I am, still going strong in the industry. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.

Are there any locations you have found to be a favorite Travel Healthcare Spot among travelers?

There have been quite a few standout favorites over the years! Hawaii always tops the list for many travelers – and for good reason. It’s not just a destination; it’s a whole experience in itself. But you know, the favorite spot really varies from one traveler to another, depending on their interests and what they consider to be fun for them.

What do you enjoy most about working with Travel Healthcare workers?

One of the most rewarding aspects of working with Travel Healthcare workers is being able to help them realize their aspirations. It’s incredibly fulfilling to hear about their goals and dreams for their travel journeys – whether it’s exploring new destinations they’ve always wanted to visit, acquiring certifications or continuing education credits, gaining valuable experience, or simply broadening their horizons and getting them to step outside of their comfort zones.

Witnessing the personal and professional growth of my travelers is truly inspiring. I’ve seen them pursue higher degrees, forge meaningful relationships while on assignment that led to marriage and starting families, check off their bucket list by visiting all 50 states, save up to explore the world, or even open their own clinics or business. It’s a privilege to play a part in their journey and to ensure that the facilities we partner with receive the exceptional care provided by these phenomenal clinicians. It’s like witnessing a ripple effect of positivity, where everyone benefits – from the travelers themselves to the patients who receive top-notch care.

What Movies or Shows would you recommend to your travelers?

Oh geez, I’m a movie buff. Probably: The Traveling Nurse” (Documentary Series), Endless Summer, The Bucket List, Lost in translation, An Idiot Abroad (TV Series).

What are the top 3 activities on your bucket list?

  • Hike the ACT, PCT, stampede trail and to Everest Base Camp
  • Visit all 50 US States & all 63 National Parks – at 42 states currently & 32 National Parks
  • Spend a month volunteering in a foreign country.

Share a piece of advice with those looking to travel!

If you’re gearing up for your first travel assignment, here’s a bit of advice: Embrace flexibility and keep your mind wide open! Traveling isn’t just about ticking off destinations on a list; it’s about immersing yourself in new experiences and embracing diversity in teams and communities.

Stay open to unexpected opportunities and be willing to venture into locations and assignments you might not have considered before. Trust me, some of the most enriching experiences come from those unexpected surprises along the way.

What would you say is your favorite U.S. Location?

Picking a favorite U.S. location is tough because there are just so many incredible places out there, each with its own unique charm. But if I had to choose one that’s really captured my heart, it would have to be Acadia National Park in Maine. The rugged coastlines, serene forests, and breathtaking vistas make it a paradise for nature lovers like me. Plus, there’s something magical about the peacefulness of the park that always leaves me feeling inspired. So, while I can’t say it’s my absolute favorite, Acadia holds a special place in my heart.

Tell us about the most memorable vacation you’ve taken!

I took a vacation to Mexico with a group of my travel therapists. One night we were walking through downtown Punta Cana, snacking on street tacos, snapping photos left and right, when we stumbled upon this hidden gem of a salsa bar right on the beach…. tables nestled in the soft sand; palm trees adorned with twinkling lights casting a magical glow all around us. It was one of those moments where time seemed to stand still, and I found myself completely immersed in the stories shared by my friends. That night was an epiphany for me. It was like a light bulb moment where I realized that travel was the missing piece in my life. That trip ignited a serious case of wanderlust within me, and ever since then, I’ve been chasing adventures and exploring new destinations whenever I get the chance. It was more than just a vacation; it was the start of a lifelong love affair with travel.
