How’d you get into travel nursing?

I got the idea of travel nursing from my sister who is an RN and had several friends who enjoyed life as a Travel RN.  I thought it would be a great opportunity to see the country and grow my knowledge base as an RN.  Initially, I thought it might be difficult going into different hospitals that clearly have staffing needs, but I’ve never felt like the places I have worked have been anything but enjoyable and all-around positive experiences.

What’s the best part about traveling?

The best part about traveling is seeing and exploring new places!  It is a great way to get to spend short amounts of time in a place you’ve always wanted to visit.  It’s like the best of both worlds – longer than a vacation but you still have a place to call home.  It’s also really nice for scheduling.  As long as you know your plans in advance you can have any time off in between contracts and still make really great money!

You meet a first-time traveler in Seattle – which restaurant is a must for them to try?

Ivars or Westward.  Both are on Lake Union with amazing views of downtown and both have a delicious taste of Northwest seafood.  Or any Asian cuisine!

What’s the best part about Seattle?

Two words: mountains and water.  After growing up in the midwest, I wake up every day and continue to be amazed by the views here.  The Olympics to the west and the Cascades to the East, Lake Union, Lake Washington, the Puget Sound – you can’t beat them!  So many outdoor activities!!

Any advice for other travelers?

Always have a positive and open attitude when going into a new contract.  Everyone likes to work with a friendly face 🙂
